Thinking I could improve on my Blender models I trashed my 2nd umbreon model and worked on a 3rd because there’s always room to improve even on completed projects.
The glowing fur was made by using a black and white texture as a material mask, hairs inside the white utilized the glowing fur, those in the black utilized the darker fur. That was completely different than my other two models which had the glowing fur separate and locked to ringed topology that was built into the model.
Now I’m experimenting with several different rigs to see which one is best for animating this model.
Umbreon modeled in blender 2.69 cycles, rendered in blender 2.7 cycles.
